Fake money?
This is a penny. Or is it?
Because copper is a limited resource, and the dollar is not, the price of copper has gone through the roof. Even though a "copper" penny only contains a little bit of copper, it costs 1.26 pennies to make one. 25% more than the penny will buy!
So now the brilliant bureaucrats in D.C. have voted to bring back the steel penny! Apparently they believe it will save us all $100 million a year. Now that is a lot of money, unless you consider that 2007's Federal Defecit was a whopping $7,000,000,000,000! SEVEN TRILLION DOLLARS, that we spent and we couldn't pay! Nice work Congress.
Hopefully soon they will realize that steel bandaids don't work. Copper's price inflation is a symptom of a larger problem...rampant dollar creation.
