On Thursday, August 7, AIGA members of all levels showed up at the local Jefferson Tap & Grille on North Jefferson in the West Loop for Clear Space IV. We had an excellent mix of returning members and new recruits--whether to Chicago, or to design itself.

This was in fact my first opportunity to meet designers from the Chicago area as I have just moved here from New York City. While every AIGA chapter is different, we all share in common our willingness to make people welcome. AIGA Chicago is no exception.

Of the people I met, the design youth showed a remarkable dedication to their careers; and the senior level designers a graciousness that was both welcoming and encouraging to this new Chicagoan.

Conversations that night ranged from last year's AIGA National Conference in Denver to the perfect qualities of an art director.
